Sage Scarlet Salvia Coccinea is a herbaseous, tender perennial wildflower. Sage Scarlet seeds can be started indoors or directly outdoors after last frost. Also commonly called Hummingbird Sage and Texas Sage, Salvia Coccinea blooms with very showy spikes of tubular, bright red flowers that are arranged in loose whorls along the strong upright stems. The Scarlet Sage flowers appear continuously from early summer to first frost, attracting butterflies and hummingbirds.

Sage Scarlet is especially desirable in natural area gardens where it maintains itself year after year without dominating or becoming invasive, and because of its brilliant color blooms, Scarlet Sage is also a good bedding, border and container plant. Salvia Coccinea seeds are easy to grow, and when Hummingbird Sage re-sows, the seeds remain in the soil, germinating continuously all year except during freezing temperatures.
