Four O'Clock Mirabilis Jalapa is a tender perennial sub-shrub that is grown as an annual in all regions of North America. Four O'Clock seeds can be started directly outdoors or indoors, and also known as Marvels of Peru, Mirabilis Jalapa produces handsome, fragrant flowers that are borne singly or in clusters, and can be red, magenta, pink, yellow or white, sometimes with more than one color on the same plant, and bi-colored flowers are also possible. Four O'Clock flowers are trumpet shaped, about an inch across at the end and about two inches long, and the plant continues to produce new flowers from late spring until fall attracting hummingbirds and butterflies
Four O'Clock is a wonderful addition to an evening garden, because once even one flower opens, a rich fragrance is released into the surrounding air, and it is not actually the time of day that causes the flowers to open, but the drop in temperature. Four O'Clock is often grown in groups for the best ornamental effect, but the plant is also looks great in mixed borders or flower beds, and because of its evening fragrance, Marvels of Peru is an excellent plant for patio containers. Mirabilis Jalapa seeds produce an old fashioned favorite, fast growing bushy plant that is very heat and drought tolerant. Four O'Clock grows well in full sun or partial shade.
