Bergenia Heartleaf Pigsqueak Bergenia Cordifolia is a herbaceous, low growing, wide spreading ground cover. Bergenia seeds can be started indoors or outdoors, and Heartleaf Bergenia grows only 6 inches tall forming large rosettes of leathery, dark-green foliage which changes its color to reddish-bronze in fall and winter. The clusters of small, carmine-red flowers grow on strong 12-18 inches tall stalks. Bergenia starts to bloom in late winter or early spring.
Bergenia Heartleaf Pigsqueak is the impressive evergreen ground cover for woodland or shade gardens and is great for rock gardens as well. Heartleaf Bergenia is an outstanding edging plant for paths and walkways. The surface sowing should be applied for Bergenia Cordifolia seeds. Pigsqueak plant is adaptable to a wide range growing conditions, and Bergenia tolerates short periods of drought, but it does best in partial shade and moderately moist, well drained soil. Bergenia has uniquely shaped and colored foliage that makes this plant a good cut flower for various floral arrangements.
