Amaranthus Red Spike Amaranthus Cruentus is a tall, showy annual native to tropical regions of North and South America. Commonly called Purple Amaranth, Red Amaranth, and Prince's Feather this plant can be easily started from Amaranthus seeds, and the fast growing Amaranthus grows 60 inches tall in just a few months producing red to deep-purple foliage with hairy stems and long spikes of usually red flowers.
Red Amaranth is a focal point in any garden, and Amaranthus Red Spike is also a superb cut flower for fresh or dried floral applications. Amaranthus Cruentus grows best in full sun preferring moderately fertile, moist, but well drained soil.
