Amaranthus Perfecta Amaranthus Tricolor is a popular annual foliage plant. Known as Summer Poinsettia, Joseph's Coat, and Tampala, Amaranthus Perfecta can be easily started from seeds, and this Amaranthus forms tall, narrow sturdy columns that have dark green, bronze leaves below a dense packed yellow and red foliage. Summer Poinsettia is a long lasting annual that grows taller and taller during the summer months, and its dramatic colors are best displayed in mass plantings.
Amaranthus Perfecta will grow straight up providing its splendid colors all summer and fall until frost. Amaranthus makes a spectacular background accent, hedge, or border plant. Amaranthus Tricolor seeds can be either sown early indoors or directly outdoors, and since Amaranthus is susceptible to frost, the seeds have to be sown only after the last chance of frost has past and the soil has warmed.
