Alternanthera Purple Knight Alternanthera Brasiliana is a tropical perennial plant native to Central and South America. Alternanthera is commonly called Calico Plant and Joy Weed and this heat loving, aprawling, vigorous foliage plant can be easily grown from seeds. Alternanthera Purple Knight has unique foliage with deepest, richest tones when it grows in full sun, but even in partial shade, the plant produces stunning, burgundy to bronze-colored foliage and blooms with small white flowers that are grouped together and look like clover.
Alternanthera Purple Knight adds a great accent to the flowering annual bed or border, and it is very nice addition to hanging baskets, containers and patio pots with it is spreading habit arches over the edge of the pot. Alternanthera Brasiliana is a frost-tender perennial in USDA zones 9-11, and it grows as an annual in all zones of North America showing excellent heat tolerance and withstanding some periods of drought, but this plant performs best with weekly watering.
